Northfield 2 Alveston 2
A tough match that ended with both sides taking a share of the spoils.
Alveston started the brighter and but for Hayes should have taken the lead. Twice pulling off top draw saves to keep it 0-0. We were second best in the opening 25 minutes but against the run of play we took the lead. A mistake at the back saw Partridge presented with a gift 12 yards out 1-0.
Alveston pulled level from a corner that never was, whilst still protesting at the decision the corner was taken half cleared and then smashed into the corner of the net by Shearer 1-1. H/T
The second half saw us take more of the initiative, we were more positive and enjoying some good possession but did fall behind after losing possession on the edge of the Alveston area, a quick break and Whale finished superbly lifting the ball over the imposing Hayes 1-2 65 mins. Hayes then saved superbly twice, he turned the first effort onto the post and from point blank range blocked the follow up. Dellenty in the Alveston goal then saved with his feet from a Wills effort. With 15 minutes to go we levelled, a corner was headed across goal by Ketley and volleyed off the bar by Partridge, the rebound fell to Pilgrim who volleyed home 2-2.
The last chance of the match was our's and fell to substitute Hughes-Tranter who when put in a really good position managed only to side foot into the arms of the grateful Dellenty.
All in all a decent game and a fair result.

Very fair report Matt, it was a full, on edge of your seat match that we felt like we had let slip through our hands, but in the end we were greatfull to at least have a point to show for all the effort. Hayes in goal on the day was outstanding.

Thanks to you and Harvey for helping us out with the warm up kit etc, and good luck especially for at least the rest of this month when your good form may well have a big bearing on top 6 league positions at the end of the month. Smile

Regards
M

Martin,
No probs with the kit etc
Hayes has been in great form all season.
Thought Tunde, Eastell and Shearer were particularly good for you boys. As well as the young right back, he looks useful!
We will do our best in all our games mate, this may well benefit you or others in the process.

Walsh, Pilgrim, Sweeney (Wills) & Briggs Played for us Laughing

If it is Alveston to whom you refer they had some very decent players but i think you might mean Mr Davies to which the answer is no he didn't.
From what i have read on here he is at Swansea Uni,???

Yes you are correct Matt, Jimmy Davies is away at Uni along with two others Leaver and McCarthy all of whom are in exam years so they are having to be quite choosy as to which games they come back for etc.

Next two games for us are County Cup and Cov Charity Cup so the whole squad will be excersised again over the next couple of weeks.

Of the 3 players who are at Uni only JD returns most weeks. Tom Leaver played two games over Xmas but they were his 1st games since August and McCarthy hasnt played since we beat Fairfield, so despite being influential players when around they havent been missed as much as it sounds.

We have improved the squad with the signings of Lewis Fathers who was at Cheltenham Town last season, Jack Taylor and also James 'Shearer' Harri from Southam. All have come in and peformed really well of late and were really pleased to be in the mix at this stage. But as for title chances, Stockingford are favourites for me. They have 17 games left of which only 7 are against teams in the top 8. I imagine they would be in fairly confident mood with or without Naughton.

Allboro, I watched your game against Fairfield and did post on here it was the best display I had seen from a team in Div 1 for a long time, I have seen Alveston 3 times since that game and the team have not looked anything like as good as the team at Fairfield.
I take it McCarthy was the lad who played at Right Back because I haven't seen him since and I would have to disagree with you, I think your team have missed him, and missed him a lot too.

Hi Kev

To a degree I would agree McCarthy Davies and Leaver would grace any side at this level and above.

The fact is though you need a squad to win anything and we are unbeaten in our last 10 games within that just 2 draws.

For this Saturday we are without 3 players due to FA cup apperances, but the good news is McCarthy and Davies will be back for the Cov Cup quarter final.

I am not saying we havent missed them as they are all very good players, I was trying to make the point that we have coped without them for most of the season. That Fairfield game was one of those days when we all clicked and played very well against a good side. We probably havent played to that level since but we have become a better overall unit and are on a run of 10 unbeaten games, which I believe is a club record so shows the players that have come in have been more than up for the job so far.

we have played everyone now, including stockingford away, and you are comfortably the best side we have come up against
